Barefolk
Lovise Espeland and Jonathan Krabbe are coming to Flåm with Western Norwegian hymns and folk songs, along with traditional fiddle tunes played on guitar and tenor guitar. In addition to traditional music, the duo performs their own songs inspired by Norwegian folk and ballad traditions. Bergen’s very own folk-jazz-ballad band Bare Folk has already received critical acclaim and established itself as something unique on the music scene in the city between the mountains. Still, Bare Folk plays ballads the way ballads are meant to sound: familiar yet fresh, wistful yet hopeful, humorous yet serious. Til Flåm kommer Lovise Espeland og Jonathan Krabbe med vestnorske salmer og viser, og med slåttespill på gitar og tenorgitar. I tillegg til tradisjonsmusikk fremfører duoen sine egne låter inspirert av norsk folkemusikk- og visetradisjon. Bergens helt egne folkete jazzviseband Bare Folk er allerede kritikerrost og forankret som noe særegent på musikkscenen i byen mellom fjell. Likevel spiller Bare Folk viser som viser skal låte: velkjent men friskt, vemodig men håpefullt, humoristisk men alvorlig.
Mats
Mats is a multi-instrumentalist from Stockholm, Sweden. He grew up playing bass guitar in local rock bands but has in adult life found the love for traditional Scandinavian music and moved to Norway. After years of studying and travelling he now has a deep understanding of both Swedish and Norwegian folk music which he plays on the Irish bouzouki, mandolin, harmonica and fiddle. Mats er en multi-instrumentalist fra Stockholm, Sverige. Han er vokst opp med bassgitar og rokkemusikk men har i vaksen alder funnet kjærligheten til Skandinavisk folkemusikk. Etter mange år med studier og reising har han nå en dyp kjennskap til både Svensk och Norsk folkemusikk, som han spiller på Irsk bouzouki, mandolin, munspel og fiolin.
Johanna Seim
Johanna Seim fell in love with the sound of the Hardanger fiddle – an instrument echoing both the wildness and stillness of nature. At 26, she left the bustling city life of Berlin for the mountains of Telemark, immersing herself in Norway’s rich folk music traditions. Now based in Bergen, she brings energy and warmth to the local folk scene as both a performer and organizer. This evening, she invites us on a musical journey through landscapes and traditions – with the Hardanger fiddle as our guide, and melodies shaped by the depths of the fjords and the whisper of the mountains.
Magnus Øydvin
Magnus grew up in Aurland and has played the hardangerfiddle since childhood. As a fiddleplayer he works in different bands and groups, but are also doing solo concerts with a strong focus on the traditional tunes from the region. He specializes in the local tradition of the hardangerfiddle, and also studied traditional music at the university in Rauland. Some of the tunes he plays are a few hundred years old, and some are of a more recent date. Alongside the tunes he tells stories and anecdotes about old fiddlers and life in general. Magnus vokste opp i Aurland og har spilt hardingfele siden barndommen. Som felespiller jobber han i ulike band og grupper, men holder også solokonserter med et sterkt fokus på de tradisjonelle slåttene fra regionen. Han spesialiserer seg på den lokale hardingfeletradisjonen, og har også studert folkemusikk ved universitetet i Rauland. Noen av slåttene han spiller er flere hundre år gamle, mens andre er av nyere dato. I tillegg til slåttene forteller han historier og anekdoter om gamle spelemenn og livet generelt.
Syver R Hauge
Syver (born in 2006) grew up on a farm in Valdres. He recently did two years at the agriculture school in Aurland. As a fiddler he is focusing on solo tradition and keeping the old style alive. His tunes is mostly from Valdres. Syver has been playing since he was 5 years old and is now one of the growing sprouts in the folk music milieu of Norway. Syver (født i 2006) vokste opp på en gård i Valdres. Han var nylig to år på landbruksskolen i Aurland. Som felespiller fokuserer han på solotradisjonen og holder den gamle stilen levende. Melodiene hans kommer for det meste fra Valdres. Syver har spilt siden han var 5 år gammel og er nå en av de spirende spirene i folkemusikkmiljøet i Norge.
Åsmund A. Farstad
Åsmund A. Farstad is a musician on fiddle and Hardanger fiddle with roots in the traditional music of the Northwest. In addition to being a traditional fiddler, he is active in the folk rock trio Kjeltring and the old-time dance group Farstad & Farstad, among others. Åsmund A. Farstad er musiker på fele og hardingfele med røter i den tradisjonelle musikken frå Nordvestlanded. I tillegg til å vere tradisjonell spelemann, er han aktiv i folkrocktrioen Kjeltring og gamaldansgruppa Farstad & Farstad, mellom anna.
Haugeland & Gautefald
Haugeland & Gautefald is a folk music duo by Lisa Haugeland (1993) from Flekkefjord, on fiddle and Herman Gautefald (1991) from Kragerø, on fiddle. Lisa and Herman share an interest for music that might not be the most exposed or popular within the Norwegian folk music community, and within this, specific traditions from the counties of Agder and Telemark. With focusing on keeping tradition and style, the duo arranges tunes and put them in a new light. Haugeland & Gautefald er en folkemusikk-duo bestående av Lisa Haugeland (f.1993) fra Flekkefjord, på fele og Herman Gautefald (f.1991) fra Kragerø, på fele. Lisa og Herman interesserer seg for musikk som kanskje ikke er helt “toppliste-pop” i det norske folkemusikkmiljøet, og innenfor dette har de spesialisert seg på tradisjoner fra vest i Agder og ytre strøk i Telemark. Duoen liker “tøffe” slåtter, noe Agder og Telemark er fullt av, og med fokus på å bevare de tradisjonelle særegenhetene i musikken, pakker de slåttene inn i friske arrangement.
Ellen Marie Selland
Ellen Marie lives in Vossestrand, which is 30 mins drive from Flåm towards Voss. She took her education in instrumental pedagogy, with accordion as her main instrument, at Norges musikkhøgskole in Oslo. She also sings traditional songs. Ellen Marie works as an organist at Vossestrand and teaches the traditional vocal singing called Kveding, accordion and piano at the cultural school of music and arts in Voss. Eg bur på Selland, på Vossestrand. Eg er utdanna instrumentalpedagog med akkordeon som hovudinstrument, frå Noregs musikkhøgskule. Eg er og folkesongar. Eg jobbar som organist på Vossestrand, og underviser i kveding, akkordeon, Nøringen og piano på Voss kulturskule.
Lars Erik Øygarden
Lars Erik grew up at the farm Sør-Øygarden in Rauland in Telemark. He is a very dedicated hardangerfiddle-nerd and teacher in the school of music and arts in the local community there. The later years he has studied old recordings and traditions from the valley of Åmotsdal in Telemark. This has lead to a master degree and a bond towards the lesser known fiddleplayers from the region. Lars Erik is also known for using hardangerfiddles of the old type and model; these fiddles would normally be placed in a museum, but he uses them at concerts and on stage. Lars Erik has played at many concerts and is a much favoured fiddleplayer for dancing. If you`re interested in hardangerfiddle and the old ways and style of playing, Lars Erik is a genuine and very good musician for experiencing just that! Lars Erik Øygarden er oppvaksen på Sør-Øygarden i Rauland, og er ihuga hardingfelenerd og kulturskulelærar. Har i dei seinare åra studera gamle opptak og tradisjonar frå mellom anna Åmotsdal. Og det har førd til ei masteroppgåve om voksrullopptak og ei interesse for litt mindre kjende tradisjonar og spelemenn ein ikkje støtt høyrer om. Lars Erik har også slått eit slag for å bruke hardingfeler av den gamle typen, som kanskje vanlegvis ville vore plassera på museum, både på konsertar og kappleikar. Desse felene syner seg som fullgode instrument, berre ein brukar dei som nettopp det. Vore med på mange kappleikar og mykje bruka som dansespelemann
